Write up
Dennis Smith Jr. is a very quick/explosive athlete who is nearly impossible to stay in front of purely on an athletic stand point, but is extremely difficult to defend when his shot is falling. He is still recovering from a torn ACL which forced him to sit out his Senior season of High School, but up to this point he seems to be recovering nicely. Smith is a very confident player who doesn’t mind being the alpha dog on a struggling NC State team. He has good PG instincts as far as creating/playmaking is concerned, but much like all young prospects, will force the issue or settle for bad shots at times. He has a good frame that should fill out has he matures, but his greatest weakness is his length (6’3″ wingspan). He makes up for his it with his athleticism and craftiness, but it may hurt him a bit in the pros. Smith could improve defensively, but so could the entire NC State team (they’ve underwhelmed this season). Overall Smith has a high ceiling and should continue to improve.
